HOSPITALITY

Society Architecture Collective set out to weave Arizona's storied heritage into the fabric of The Phoenician Resort, transforming multiple gathering spaces into destinations where timeless desert character meets contemporary refinement. Drawing from regional warmth—rich wood tones, iron accents, and rustic touches—the team created spaces that feel authentically rooted in the Sonoran landscape while delivering the sophistication today's guests expect. Each renovation was conceived as an extension of the resort's refined yet approachable spirit, encouraging guests to linger, connect, and savor the beauty of Camelback Mountain and the surrounding desert.

Through thoughtful detailing, strategic use of natural light, and intentional spatial planning, Society Architecture Collective strengthened The Phoenician's position as a destination where elegance meets genuine hospitality.

Mowry & Cotton Restaurant & Bar

Society Architecture Collective reimagined this gathering place as a warm, modern-American destination anchored by a dramatic hearth-oven for freshly baked goods. Rich wood tones, iron accents, and Old-West charm create a refined yet relaxed mood. Floor-to-ceiling windows and an expansive porch flood the space with natural light while framing views of the resort's pools and desert landscape. The thoughtfully planned bar balances sophistication with comfort, welcoming guests from morning coffee to evening cocktails. The deep menu inspired spatial decisions around flow and seating, encouraging shared plates and continuous conversation.

Spa & Wellness Center

Focusing on health and wellness, the Phoenician Resort looked to Society Architects to re-invision their existing spa, increasing its capacity for health treatments, locker rooms and fitness spaces and adding numerous amenities including a rooftop pool. Houston Tyner approached the complex program by designing the quiet treatment spaces in the lower level and the main level for fitness and wet amenities. The large mens and womens spas were positioned to take advantage of the views of Camelback mountain with large skylights and abundant glass. The double height lobby which can be approached from two opposing entrances includes a 20’ long glass sculpture reminiscent of the wings of the Phoenix.

The Athletic and Tennis Center

The new two story building was carefully sited at the top of the slope incorporating large glass windows along the second story protected from the sun by a cantilevered trellis affording guests expansive views of the hotel grounds. The project includes tennis and pickle ball courts and a stadium competition tennis court and trapeze yard. Abundant native planting surrounds the building and courts with walking paths that welcome guests to take their morning and eventing stroll among nature.

The Thirsty Camel Lounge

Society Architecture Collective transformed this signature lounge into a refined yet relaxed destination celebrating panoramic valley and mountain views. A spacious terrace filled with fire pits connects guests to the landscape and Scottsdale sunsets. Chic, comfortable seating and a handcrafted cocktail program inspired by desert botanicals support both social gathering and quiet conversation. Nightly live entertainment and thoughtful material and lighting choices evoke elegance while honoring the timeless natural surroundings, earning recognition as one of Forbes's "World's Best Hotel Bars."
